Keeping the Platy fry safe

The platy finally gave birth. I made a small enclosure for the platy fry using a 1.5 litre soda bottle. It now floats in the aquarium with the fry in it. Now, I don’t have to worry about maintaining the water quality of another tank just for the platy fry. The floating enclosure has many tiny holes in it which help water move in and out.

It took some effort to get the enclosure floating without the fry escaping from the top. I found most of the fry swimming along the surface of the water and had to scoop them and put them in the enclosure. I have some of the Riccia floating and that gave them some protection. I can still see some fry swimming along the bottom and in the plants. I hope they manage to keep hiding from the big fish.

I am currently feeding the fry crushed flakes. I hope the LFS has some food for baby fish. Here are some snaps of the enclosure and the fry.
